This is a mental map depicting the Los Angeles area. The map shows which area of the city are seen as most dangerous to residents. The map was created by a Professor at Purdue University, Sorin Matei. Interviews were conducted with people in six ethnically diverse neighborhoods to find out where these people felt the least safe. The darkest shades indicate the areas with the most perceived danger while the lighter areas are considered safer. This map does not necessarily correspond to where the most crime is, however it is not just facts which affect our perception of our surroundings. http://web.ics.pudue.edu/~smatei/MentalMaps/explain.html
